At Saxon, we work closely with all types of superyachts to help arrange market leading insurance for them and from our work comes great relationships with the people that own, manage and work on-board these yachts. These yachts travel around the world and we love hearing about their latest adventures! Here are some of the destinations that would be at the top of our wish list.
Antarctica
Known to all as one of the most remote and treacherous regions on the planet because of the climate with temperatures reaching lows of -90°C with wind speeds of up to 200mph. This vastly deserted area boasts some of the most precious species of wildlife ranging from the Emperor Penguin to the Blue Whale. If you are lucky enough to visit Antarctica, you will be amongst a minority of the population who have had this privilege.
If visiting this remote region on boat then you will need to be on board a specialised yacht, more commonly known as ice classed. These yachts, typically, have reinforced hulls to give additional strength, resulting in the ability to travel through sea ice. Alongside the special modifications, these yachts needs to be able to travel vast distances without needing to refuel or stop for supplies because, as you can imagine, ports in Antarctica are few and far between!
If you are not fortunate enough to own your own ice classed explorer yacht then a week long charter trip to the Antarctica could cost roughly £600,000 however if you wish to spend more to ensure you have one of the largest and most well equipped yachts then prices can be north of £1,500,000 per week!
St Barts
Saint Barthélemy is recognised as an exclusive and luxurious island retreat, home to famous hotels such as the Eden Rock or Hotel Le Toiny and restaurants such as Orega or Le Tamarin. However, if you want to experience St Barts with the utmost privacy then the best way forward is to visit on board a superyacht. This could be best described as your floating hotel however the hotel is private and the guests are your closest family and friends and the meals you will eat will be Michelin starred standard. With a superyacht comes not just a boat but plenty of (jingle) bells and whistles, ranging from jet skis to a helicopter in order to ensure privacy when travelling to places on shore!
A trip to St Barts on a charter yacht that boasts all the toys alongside could cost £1,000,000 per week, however if you are ‘on a budget’ you could arrange a charter for roughly £400,000 per week.
Port Hercules, Monaco
A sentence about Monaco’s main port would not be complete without the mention of superyachts. Monaco is internationally known for being the home of the ultra-wealthy, with a constant stream of superyachts and supercars, this microstate is favoured by many as a go-to summer destination. You can even book yourself a spot to watch the infamous Grand Prix from the back of a superyacht!
Organising a charter trip on a yacht based in Monaco results in a range of travel possibilities because the south of France offers a vast coastline to explore. Venture out of port Hercules and head east and you will find yourself travelling towards the Italian Riviera and more specifically, Portofino where you can dine at renowned restaurants such as Ristorante Puny. If you do not fancy the longer trip to Italy then head west and you could travel down to Paloma beach in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat for the day or if you have time (and the money) then straight ahead out of the port and head over to Corsica.
If you either own, work on-board or help with the management process of one of a superyacht then please contact as we can help to arrange a market leading insurance policy for all aspects of a superyacht. Contact us directly to discuss more about how we can help.
